Dr.
Tom Manson
Dr. Tom Manson began his
martial arts career in 1971 in Chillicothe, Ohio studying Seiei Kan Karate under
Master Don Madden. In 1988 he had the good fortune to meet Master Merritt
Stevens. Master Stevens forced Dr. Manson to realize the study of Karate alone
would not answer all of his self defense needs. At this time Dr. Manson began to
study other martial arts and discovered the answers to
many of his questions. To this day he still considers himself a student of the
martial arts. Dr. Manson has founded the Tokoshi Kan system based on his
training in martial arts. The word “tokoshi” means, “to cross a great
distance”. Dr. Manson feels you have crossed a great distance when you begin
martial arts training, you have crossed a great distance when you earn your
first belt, you have crossed a great distance when you receive your Black Belt
and hopefully if you were properly trained realize there is a great distance to
go. The Tokoshi Kan system employs kicks and punches of Karate, joint locks of
Aikido, Aikijitsu, and Jujitsu and the holds and throws of Judo. This is the
system he teaches today. Some of Dr. Manson’s achievements are as follows:
