October 1966 - At the age of 9 years old, I was introduced to Judo at the local
YMCA club in Dundee.
1971
- Awarded Junior Black Belt in Judo and began studying Ju-Jitsu.
1974
– Opened the first Ju-Jitsu club in Dundee, Scotland.
1974-75 – Commenced training in Shotokan Karate at one of the local
clubs in
Dundee.
1975-76 – Started Aikido training.
1976 – Awarded 1st Dan Black Belt in Ju-Jitsu. Dabbled in
Lau Gar Kung Fu.
Joined the Tayside Police Force as a constable.
1979 – By now was running 24 Ju-Jitsu schools across the length and
breadth of
Scotland.
Founder member and secretary of the Scottish Ju-Jitsu Union of
Clubs, later
renamed, Scottish Ju-Jitsu
Association (SJJA). Appointed General Secretary
to SJJA.
Established the SJJA Headquarters in Dundee.
Awarded 2nd Dan Black Belt in Ju-Jitsu.
1983 – Awarded 3rd Dan Black Belt in Ju-Jitsu.
1986 – Left Tayside Police Force to work with the SJJA.
1987 – Awarded 4th Dan Black Belt in Ju-Jitsu.
Co-founded the Dundee Sports Medicine Centre (DSMC) situated
within the
SJJA HQs.
1990 – Awarded 5th Dan Black Belt in Ju-Jitsu.
1992 – September, Awarded 4th Dan Hontai Yoshin Ryu, and 1st
Dan Toyama Ryu
Iaido, at HYR HQs. Nishinomiya, Japan.
1992 – October- Promoted to Branch Chief Instructor for Hontai
Yoshin Ryu, by
Dai Soke Tsuyoshi Munetoshi Inoue.
1993 – August – Awarded 6th Dan Black Belt in Ju-Jitsu.
1995 – May- Undertook a Diploma Course in Sports Therapy.
1999-2000 – Worked in dissection room with Dr. Susie Whiten, St.
Andrews
University, studying gross anatomy.
2000 – March – Awarded 7th Dan Black Belt in Ju-Jitsu.
2002 – Inducted into the World Martial Arts Hall of Fame and The World
Sports
Medicine Hall of Fame-Cincinnati, Ohio.
2002 – Appointed the Kokusai Senshu Tokukai (The International
Champions of
Virtue Association) Executive
Technical Director for Scotland and England.
